I got an email from an ex-girlfriend I hadn't spoken to in ages, and I noticed this Google ad pop up on the side:

Win Back Your Ex

Are you sad because you miss her? Here's a proven-to-work blueprint.

This surprised me. It's not like the email was laden with keywords ("Steve, this is your EX-GIRLFRIEND."). I'm not sure how Google figured out the context of this email. It could have come from everyone.

But I guess that's what makes Google Google: their ability to read between the lines. The lines of my private conversations. ;)
