How to tell if a Web 2.0 company is doomed from the start

You ask: "How do you plan to make money?"

They answer: "Advertisements."

Everyone seems to think that setting up a free website and filling it with ads is a substitute for a sound business plan. News flash: The economy can't be powered by Google AdSense alone. If you really want your company to make money, it might be prudent to provide a service that people will actually pay for.
