Six month review
(Feb. 20th, 2005 - 10:42PM)
I've requested a six-month review at work, because I have a lot to say.
I am fortunate to work for a great company with cool co-workers, but I really think the company needs to shift direction if they want to become competitive again.
My employer, Eloquent Systems Inc., used to be a contender in the library software industry, but they've lost a lot of market share and I want to get them back on track. I know some tricks to help establish a company's reputation as a good software vendor, which had great results with my old employer. But so far, my boss has been very resistant to change.
I think my boss' line of thought is that he's been doing this job for three decades, so he must be doing everything right. He says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." But what makes him think it isn't broke? The company is nowhere near as influential as it was several years ago, so something must be wrong. I want to take action to correct the problems we're having, but so far my actions have been frowned upon.
I'll bring this up at my review, which I'm not looking forward to, and see how what I have to say is received.
