The Token War Rant
(July 5th, 2003)
Every blog has its own Iraq war rant...now is a good time for me to write mine. It may be a little late, but I think my beliefs still ring of truth.
I'll start this off by saying that I don't think this war was justified. Yes, Saddam probably had weapons of mass destruction, but the whole Bush administration used weapons of mass destruction as their excuse for invasion...and my opinion is, the real question is not whether Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, but whether he posed a threat to the United States.
Saddam never posed a threat to the US. He is insignificant. Whether this war is actually about oil, or pride, or whatnot, I don't know.
Another thing the Americans have been saying is that this war is part of a project to bring democracy to oppressed people in the rest of the world. Well, as far as I see, democracy is about people. The best thing about a democratic nation is the freedoms it offers to its citizens. So, the question I ask is, if you invade Iraq and force your democratic government structure upon its people...is that not fascism? Does that not mean that Bush is no less of a brutal dictator than the man he's trying to oust?
